Last weekend, we had the enormous privilege of taking a group of 14 up to Saddell House on the Mull of Kintyre Peninsula. On Friday afternoon we set off from Glasgow full of excitement, stopping in Inveraray for an explore and a stretch of the legs. By early evening we had arrived at the jaw dropping Saddell House, an estate building that has been donated to, and is now maintained by the Landmark Trust. We all enjoyed running from room to room, exploring every corner of the house, before settling down to our first meal together and getting the fires lit. Saturday started with a swim in the sea for some, and a relaxing start for the rest! We then all set off together for a hike up the hill behind Saddell, braving the mud and sliding all the way down, we had earned our cosy bowl of soup by lunchtime. The afternoon was whiled away by exploring the – on- the -doorstep- beach, trying our hand at some fishing, exploring rock pools and even having a scavenger hunt. Nadia and Fariba treated us by cooking Iranian Ghormeh Sabzi, with laughter round the table filling our hearts, and nourishing stew filling our bellies! We enjoyed games, painting, and Turkish coffee together in the living room until retiring to our fancy beds. Sunday threw us off with a stormy start, but this miraculously cleared into glorious blue skies and sunshine by the time we all got ourselves out. We headed into Campbeltown and saw it at it’s best, even having a shot on the swings… We then made our way over to Westport beach, and were treated to the sight of a swimming deer! Sunday dinner was prepared by Syeda and family, who cooked up a storm of Biryani and Pakora. To top of a stunning weekend, connecting with each other and the landscape around us, we had a bonfire on the beach. Many, many happy memories made, and heavy hearts being dragged away on Monday morning!
